To all of my students and families,

I hope everyone is trying to stay healthy and safe.  Please know I am here for support and am available Monday-Friday from 8:25am-3:15pm.  If you would like to set up a Team chat or phone call please email me at [email protected].

Here are some suggestions during virtual learning you may find helpful:

  1. Follow your class schedule & establish routines- Routines provide a sense of safety and security. They help prepare students for what is coming, which can help them feel calm and more in control of their day. Don’t forget to schedule time to relax and play too.

  2. Normalize the day- Establish a consistent wake up time and breakfast time. Set up a workspace that is free from distractions and keep all school related materials there. Have a clear start and finish time. Having a scheduled lunch time is also important, as well as break times.

  3. Reach out if you have questions- Encourage your child to take the initiative with their work and reach out to their teacher(s) with questions. This is a great way to nurture independence and sense of control.

  4. Encourage fresh air breaks/Balance- Schedule short breaks between subjects if needed. When the weather permits, encourage fresh air and sunshine. Stretching or movement breaks can be helpful too.

  5. Connect with friends- Provide time for your child to interact virtually with peers to encourage socialization and friendships. Taking time to connect, chat and laugh together is important.

  6. Be mindful of screen time- Parents are encouraged to monitor their child’s online activities. Perhaps consider scheduling set amounts of social media/screen time each day. Please see the PowerPoint below for additional supports with cybersafety.

  7. Take time to talk, play & have fun together- Comfort your child that this is not forever. Try to enjoy the time you have together. Read, bake, play a boardgame, watch good TV, listen to music, dance, exercise and practice mindfulness. Please see the links on the left for additional resources.

  8. Take some alone time when needed. This is an important part of self-care.
